Brief
What is it?
As designers, we are used to making up briefs! These set out all of the details we need to formalise and share with clients to be clear about what we're trying to achieve.
Why and when should I use this?
A brief is a document we can refer back to to keep us on track. It puts our agreement with clients in writing and holds us to account.
How much time should I spend on this?
20-30 minutes. It is helpful to get a colleague to sense check what you have written, which may extend the time you spend on it.
Who should I involve in this?
One person from the project team will write the brief, with other team members providing feedback before you share the final version with your client.
How to use it...
- Fill in the headings: Individually, work through the headings on the template using all of the information and insights you have gathered so far. You might need to do some additional research into what strategic priorities align with your project from your organisation, neighbourhood or local authority's perspective.
- Share the brief with your client: Send your draft brief to your client for comment.
- Adapt and finalise: Make any changes noted by your client and review with your project team. Share the final brief with your client and any strategic stakeholders who need it for awareness.
